Pack For a Week Away

Consoli-date with destiny…

Posted July 15, 2015

Summertime, and the living is easy. So is the traveling. It’s time for a little getaway – that week in the country, or perhaps to see family, catch up with old friends, or take a romantic second honeymoon? The key is to not over pack. A light bag makes life easier, takes up very little space and might even fit in the overhead compartment on the plane. Here are our tips for how much and what to pack, keeping you looking tidy and feeling good for an entire, seven-day week away.

Think Separates

If you’re packing separates, think three bottoms and about five tops. Best if one top can go with two of the bottoms. For every dress you pack, remove one outfit. Bring comfortable things that allow for a lot of walking and ease, but make certain you pack one more formal outfit that will work for either dinner or last-minute theatre tickets. If you bring good deodorant and unless you’re hiking, there is absolutely no reason you can’t wear things more than once.

Neutral Colors

Keep color palate neutral and with mostly solids with limited patterns.

Fabrics: Durable fabrics in synthetics or thicker cottons. Stay away from packing linen unless you are going for that lived-in look.

Shoes and Accessories

You simply need a good belt and a statement pair of earrings. For shoes, bring one pair of cute, fashionable sneakers and one pair of simple, comfortable pumps or wedges. Wear the sneakers on the plane and pack the heels.

Sample Wardrobe For One Week:

  1. One pair of dark rinse denim, slimmer fit.
  2. One pair of boyfriend fit, cropper, light wash denim, preferably with a few “on trend” tears.
  3. One pair of jogger style pants, great for walks or a casual day exploring the town.
  4. One subtle striped tee that can mix and match with jeans or joggers.
  5. One solid color tee, your favorite style, be it vee-neck or scoop.
  6. One button down blouse, loose fit that can tuck.
  7. One tunic style top that can be bunched up with a belt or worn low with tighter denim.
  8. One long sleeve tee in a lightweight fabric.
  9. One thin, screen print sweatshirt that can be worn alone or layered.
  10. One cardigan that can be casually tied around the waist or, again, layered.
  11. One wrap dress in a synthetic fabric that reduces wrinkles, packs small and is always flattering.

And, one last thing, but very important, pack extra underwear. A refreshing shower mid day can slip you easily back into the same outfit, but it’s always nice to have a fresh pair of underwear and they hardly take up any room.

Happy travels!
