There is no doubt that both male grooming and men’s fashion are having a renaissance. The past few years, men have grown carefully manicured beards and discovered hair products in numbers that rival their girlfriends’ bathroom cabinet stashes. But in addition to close-cropped facial hair, there is an emerging trend of longer, fuller beards. And all those Paul Bunyan-esque beards have ushered in a lumberjack look of sorts; an urban working man’s chic that’s kinda, ahem, growing on us. Here’s how to pull it off without having to carry an axe.
Flannel
Though in a different way than its grunge first cousin, the lumberjack look requires a bit of plaid. More tidy than grunge, men are tucking in flannel shirts and layering them with cardigan sweaters and more refined items like pressed trousers and leather boots.
Pants
It’s all about heritage workwear jeans here. Move away from the typical softened denim and opt, instead, for stiffer waxed or raw denim. Keep the silhouette tight so as not to look sloppy.
Coats
Fur lined hoods and all things “outdoors” are the final touch to any urban lumberjack’s wardrobe. Experiment with parkas, barn jackets and pea coats.
Accessories
Though the lumberjack look should not be worn head to toe, to avoid looking like a bad Halloween costume, there are a lot of fun, on-trend accessories that will add to your winter look. Try suspenders, woolen hats and streamlined, cloth backpacks.
