In the age of multi-tasking, why shouldn’t fashion follow suit? Make the day-to-night transition seamless by investing in outfits that can do double duty—from the office to out on the town. According to fashion stylist Stacy Cox, girls on the go should start with a reliable arsenal of versatile essentials. “Four items that can transform a dress or pants instantly are blazers/jackets, scarves, statement necklaces, and fabulous shoes,” says Cox, who also swears by the convertible Essential Cami.
Fabric choices are also key—cotton can be construed as more casual, which might not work so well for nighttime. Instead, opt for tops, wrap dresses, skirts, or jackets in materials like silk, rayon, chiffon, and wool. Says Cox, “These fabrics offer a more elegant feel that works well both in the office, and in a more social setting.”
If you’re feeling especially festive, consider glittery elements. “Adding season-less sparkle is a great way to update your work wardrobe,” says style expert Samantha Beranbom, who suggests swapping your basic button-down for a sequined top, underneath a blazer or cardigan. “Not only will this bring unexpected glam to your cubicle, but it can easily take you from your desk to dinner.” In order to avoid “looking like a disco queen,” Beranbom suggests selecting sequins in classic shapes slouchy tees, or tunics in dark or neutral colors.
And, of course, shoes are another great way to instantly add spark to your ensemble. “Opt for pumps in a bright hue or fun metallic,” advises Beranbom. “They will kick things up a notch when paired with a go-to pencil skirt, or shift dress.” Work it, baby.
