If you missed out on a mountain vacation over the winter holidays, don’t worry. You didn’t miss anything. In fact, the best snow is yet to come, and deals are always there for the taking.
“Generally speaking, every resort in North America is great in February and March. Every resort is going to offer a great experience and great snow,” says Dan Sherman, the managing director of Ski.com.
With powder days still occurring throughout the country, the question then becomes about the most enjoyable towns. Sherman’s clients give rave reviews to the authentic Colorado ski towns of Breckenridge, Aspen and Telluride. Park City, Utah, is highly accessible with its proximity to Salt Lake City. Whistler BC is defined as “the ultimate ski experience,” by resting at the base of two enormous mountains. Lake Tahoe offers everything from casino nightlife on the south shore to the family-friendly villages of the north. Sherman says, “All of those are great destinations for people looking for a good, off-mountain ski town experience.”
The most important tip Sherman has, however, is not being rigid with your itinerary. He states, “If you can be flexible with your dates [and] your destination then you’re going to be able to, first of all, save money, and possibly even have a better experience.”
Sherman also suggests booking as early as possible, both to ensure deals as well as your preferred lodging. Don’t forget your goggles, sunscreen and—as obvious as it may seem—cold weather attire. As for deals on lift tickets, let your travel provider handle that.
“If you book your lodging with ski.com or another provider, you can save up to 40% on lift tickets. You benefit when you book all-inclusive packages, especially with services such as ski.com, which are free to the traveler.”
Lastly, with hundreds of mountain resorts and thousands of lodging options, it’s never too late to find your perfect mountain get-away. With the best snow yet to come, now is the perfect time to start booking.
