Red Carpet Style For 2012

Expert predictions for red carpet fashion during statuette season...

Posted February 9, 2012

red carpet Awards season! The statuettes, the stars, the interviews, the acceptance speeches, sweeps and snubs. But the biggest winner across all categories is the red carpet. Adoring and critiquing the starlets in their gowns has become a worldwide pastime, making overnight household names out of young designers, and splashing pictures of actresses all over front pages. Here, we get in on the action, too, with a few expert award show fashion forecasts.

Beagy Zielinski, fashion stylist and founder of L’Armoire Du Styliste Clothing Rental Atelier, works with A-listers to create breathtaking red carpet entrees. “I think we will be seeing a lot of black, grey and blue, or muted, forgiving silhouettes on the red carpet,” she says. “I hope to see a few brave stars fight the urge and bring in some color.”

Zielinski says that red carpet beauties are ones who take risks. “It’s just more fun. After all, that is what being in the arts and entertainment business is all about. When you make a movie, you hope people like it. Same with wearing a dress. You hope people like it. You can’t please everyone but if you let that hold you back, you will never peak.”

In the past, names like Claire Danes, Charlize Theron and Emma Stone haven’t disappointed and, as Zielinski adds, “since they are nominated, they will push the envelope even further.” Zielinski expects wonders from Michele Williams and Sandra Bullock, but also Rachel McAdams “who was to die for wearing Marchesa in 2011 at Cannes.”

Mainly, we hope there’s more chances taken on the red carpet this season. “With all the scrutiny being put on what people are wearing and pressure to be best dressed, many give up in an effort to not be labeled as worst dressed,” says Zielinski. “Haute couture is made for the red carpet and there’s not too many other places to wear it. This is the time for celebs to play dress up, and wear some of the most expensive and amazing clothing in the world. I love when they enjoy it rather than wearing something safe.”
