Getting Technical

Making innovation your fashionable friend...

Ok, while Gore-Tex in outerwear isn’t exactly new – heck, think of Hypercolor and parachute pants as a novelty back in the day – there are new materials on the horizon in menswear, innovation that will migrate from sports and outerwear into your everyday wardrobe.

Simply think of it as the future, fashion-wise. Hi-tech fabrics and construction, like tent-type materials and new fabric treatments, like carbon coating, that render garments waterproof, and new tech-blends of existing fabrics, are emerging ever faster, so keep an eye out for how you can get in on some of the cutting-edge garments.

Obviously, the most common examples are found in outerwear, with advancements in heat-modifying textiles used to regulate body temperature, “weatherproof” items to keep you dry, silver integrated with fabric as an antibacterial measure, and carbon-coating or fiber to wick away moisture.

Another area that embraces advancements in apparel technology is footwear, so check out the newfangled hybrid offerings, that can help keep you comfortable in your kicks when walking, running, biking, hiking, climbing – you name it, it’s out there (but, for stylistic purposes, we’re issuing an advisory against the five-toed sneaker things creeping around).
