False eyelashes, be damned! Why mess with all the gluing and positioning when you can just draw on longer lashes? That’s right. Sketched on eyelashes were a hit beauty trend at the fall shows, particularly on the catwalks of John Paul Gaultier, Derek Lam and Anthony Vaccarello, where models fluttered smudged out eyes with sketched on lashes, both top and bottom.
Though the look may seem too theatrical, if done correctly, it’s actually a flirty, soft look for an evening out minus the hassle of false eyelashes. From afar, it appears entirely real and, up close, it’s dramatic and fun.
To try this look at home, first swipe on a bronzed color eye shadow on the lids and across the bottom lashes. This will make the eye the center focal point of the face. Then accentuate your own lashes with luxe, dark mascara. Take the same mascara and extend the lashes, slightly beyond the eyelid above and just past the lid, below. Finish with a soft pink lipstick so as not to compete with the bold eyes.
The look can also be achieved without wielding or wearing any mascara. You can opt, instead, for a liquid or pencil liner. Some artists employ a combination of both liquid and pencil, the liquid adding precision at the edges and the pencil smudging better along the lash line.
