Men rarely get the chance to go all out with their accessories. OK, there’s the occasional wild summer sneaker or a bit of handkerchief peeking out of a suit. Thankfully, winter provides endless opportunities for practical trimmings. And while you may embrace the additions for the sake of warmth, you might as well add some style, too.
Scarves
Take your style up a notch by tying on a scarf. Think long cable knit over a heavy winter coat or ski jacket, or go more formal with a vintage-inspired stripe or pattern that works perfectly over a suit jacket in conservative work environments. If your everyday look involves jeans and a pullover, adding a lightweight wool-blend infinity scarf turns drab into fab – very European.
Gloves
If you’re the rugged outdoorsy type, you might prefer shearling-lined, work-style gloves. These are a good choice for weekends or casual outings and go well with everything from denim to chinos. For a more refined look, opt for thinner, softer driving-style gloves in leather. For this more elegant look, match the color of the driving gloves to other leather accessories such as shoes and a belt.
Headwear
The hat is the quintessential winter accessory, and all manner of toppers are positively on trend. Keep in all that lovely heat with, for instance, a flat cap. The British chap in you will love a charcoal gray or black style matched to an overcoat. Fur hats, this season, have that Russian look but are best when kept a bit smaller and matched to a sweater or pea coat. Beanies are de rigueur for the younger set, worn both indoors and outside. And lastly, bring out your inner Don Draper with the always-dapper Fedora.
Take our tips and create a few of your own to keep toasty and trendy this winter.
