This week at the movies…Spidey is back; and Elizabeth Banks does the walk of shame…
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are back as Peter Parker/Spidey and Gwen, but this time they are fighting even more evil enemies: one who comes in the guise of his former friend who has joined forces with a conglomerate that is spying on him (OsCorp) and a new baddie, Electro (Jamie Foxx).
Perfect For: You liked the first Spidey movie, and you are a fan of blockbuster superhero flicks in general. Also, I’d say, barring those two things—Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are great actors and fun to watch regardless of what they are in.
What the Critics Say: This outing doesn’t look as a well done as the original. And the reviews reflect that: Writes the Wall Street Journal: “How bad is this one ...? Amazingly so. Villainy abounds, but the villains are strident contrivances. Spider-Man flies, but does so dutifully, without joy.”
Our Take: Only for the die-hard.
Walk of Shame
Elizabeth Banks stars as an aspiring newscaster who gets drunk and has a fun one night stand with a hot guy (played by James Marsden), but when she decides to leave his house early she ends up stranded in L.A. when her car is towed, wearing nothing but a tight bright yellow dress and high heels. Hijinks ensue.
Perfect For: Look, Elizabeth Banks is awesome. What else do you need?
What the Critics Say: The movie’s release has been pushed back a bunch of times, and there are no reviews logged yet. This doesn’t bode well.
Our Take: Despite the fact that all the good bits are in the trailer, I could be convinced to see it, simply because Elizabeth Banks is awesome.
