When it comes to entertaining, we could all use a liberal dose of inspiration. Thanks to Pinterest, hostesses now have thousands of ridiculously cute and creative DIY ideas at their fingertips. (A quick search for “party” on the site brought up everything from “Superhero Cupcake Tree” to “Cherry Blossom Spa Party.”) So why not bring the best ones to life with a party dedicated to everyone’s favorite new online pastime?
It’s easy to get started, as Pinterest will not only provide the party motif but also help in the planning process. Start a party “board” that can serve as a central place to collect and store ideas, with all aspects of the party stemming straight from the site. “You can find the most unique ideas for food and drink, table settings, favors, and any special DIY touches,” shares Jessica Bailey, party stylist for Evite and Evite Postmark. “It’s a hostess’s dream!”
The theme can go one of two ways—you can curate ideas that correspond with a theme found on the site (such as a baby shower tea or a Super Bowl soiree) or simply plan a crafting party based around Pinterest projects. And if you’re really into the whole crafting thing, you might even want to turn it into a recurring club for fellow Pinterest fanatics.
“Take turns hosting and planning the craft project of the night, and have the rest of the group bring the [Pinterest-inspired] treats,” says Bailey, who recently hosted a holiday-themed party where her guests made DIY snow globes out of mason jars.
And of course, remember that what happens offline is the true life of the party. “We’re living in a time when people tend to socialize more online than face-to-face,” adds Bailey. “Remember to pay attention to those little wonderful moments you share with loved ones. When you look back at your life, those will be the moments that you remember.”
