You’re a Shoe-in

Men’s dress shoes for fall...

By Rebecca Paiement

There’s one thing women often notice on a man: his shoes. A beat up, worn out pair of dress shoes will ruin your expensive suit, and your date. Purchasing a pair of good dress shoes is as essential as wearing the right tie. Fortunately, this winter, men’s footwear is looking sharper than ever and giving that Cavalli suit a run for its considerable money.

Not only is style of prime importance, this season shape is also paramount. Gone are the days of square toes. Men’s dress shoes are sleeker these days, narrower with a slightly rounded toe.

If you’re a dress shoe novice, head towards the black leather section. A nice pair of lace up black oxfords will not only work with your workday suit but also, surprisingly, your weekend denim and sweaters. Then branch out to browns, wing tips and boots.

If you’re used to rubberized soles for comfort, please reconsider leather soles. A good, solid, chunky leather sole is much more en vogue and, actually, quite comfy. The sturdy sole pairs nicely with today’s slimmer fit suits and snugger jeans. But, if you must, rubber has gone up a few notches, with newer designs and fits that still look sharp.

The best part? Men don’t need a closet full of shoes like we women do. Just one or two trusty pairs will take you places, both literally and figuratively.
