We saw a bit of it this past summer, and it’s held fast into fall. The super slinky, deliciously comfy silk pant. Done up in all matter of deep solids to wild prints, from slightly slouchy lounge to more tailored versions, the silk pant can be dressed up or down, as en-vogue at your Sunday coffee house as it was out to dinner the night before.
The trick to the silk pant looking luxurious rather than lazy is all in the fit. Opt for a size down. The more tapered the better. When silk pants become too baggy, you run the risk of looking like you just rolled out of bed. Tuck in your top to keep the look shape conscious rather than sloppy, and accessorize with jewelry and, perhaps most importantly, some heels. With flats, again, things could look too casual. It’s a genie look, comfortable and chic, that pairs well with fall sweaters.
The more tailored version of the silk pant comes off like a pair of jeans, generally with a zippered front, belt loops, creases down the legs and a large, vivid floral shining silk print of some sort. These printed silks often have a bit of stretchy give, which allows them to be more formfitting. This look can work with flats, especially if the top is a low key blazer. For a dressier occasion, try a sequined, contrasting blouse.
And, for those who fully embrace the silk trend, try the head to toe look, completing your silk pants with a matching silk suit jacket or silk blouse.
