Exterior Art Mural at Indian Mound Mall

The Canvas Project is an art-based program, started in 2019 which supports our local community’s art culture. Through the Canvas Project, local artists have a space to showcase their art within common areas of Washington Prime Group town centers across the country – like right here at Indian Mound Mall. While celebrating and supporting local artists is at the heart of The Canvas Project, it also provides an opportunity for the community to connect and grow together through art, emotion and imagination. In our newest project, we will bring the vibrancy of our town center tenants and guests to the exterior of the building with outdoor murals on the walls and parking lot. This program will use color, texture and art to inspire the community.

Local artists make our community vibrant. Their use of subjects, color, texture and composition awaken a sense of curiosity and connection to the world around us. The Canvas Project supports local artists while providing an opportunity for our community to grow together. We will spotlight an artist’s talent with live, in-person and in-progress work on display right outside.

Indian Mound Mall will be working with local artist Lenise Alexandra for this project. Lenise. Alexandra worked on the popular downtown Newark murals and is involved heavily in our community. We all agreed that we wanted this artwork to be highly visible to the community and Indian Mound Mall guests. Because of this, the mural is going on the front of the Indian Mound Mall next to JCPenney.
