Yes, You Can Wear White in Winter

It’s a white out…

Posted December 30, 2015

At a time of year when so many turn to wearing black, why not try the polar opposite… white? Though it is absolutely fine to wear bright white year round, there’s something so rich and “wintery” about the off white shades during the snowy months. Whether you prefer a dressy look or cozy, casual attire, here are a few ideas and guidelines on how to wear winter white.

From Head To Toe

Dressing in all white can be flattering and chic. But when you’re wearing all winter white, vary the textures to keep things interesting. Consider chiffon, denim, chunky rib knits, cashmere, satin, wool flannel, gabardine, faux fur, lace, leather and more. Then mix to your heart’s content. Although wearing the exact same shade of winter white from head to toe is extremely elegant, it’s much more modern to subtly contrast your shades in an outfit. Cream, bone, champagne, and ivory are just a few of your choices. Feel free to pair pure white denim with these off white shades for a cool girl look!

With Rich Neutrals

If the creamy tone from head to toe is just too much for you, try adding in rich, neutral tones for a bit of variety. Stick with winter white clothing and accent with beige, taupe or camel boots, scarves, hats and other accessories. Or incorporate the neutrals into your whole outfit. For example, try a pair of winter white jeans with a camel poncho, or adding a taupe faux fur vest to a cream colored outfit.

With Metallic Gold

What could be more holiday party ready than adding metallic fabric into your look? Have an invitation that calls for “creative cocktail”? Consider a metallic skirt with a winter white top. Looking for something a bit more casual and classic? Perhaps a pair of cream, wide leg pants and a metallic sweater is exactly what you need! Or, jazz up any white outfit with shiny gold jewelry.

With Black

It’s super important to be intentional with this color scheme to create a standout look. At this time of year there are plenty of white pieces with black details. Try ivory pants or a champagne silky camisole trimmed with black lace. Yet another option is to finish your head-to-toe winter white outfit with black accessories. Instead of topping off your look with a simple, pendant necklace, mix it up by layering it with jet-black beads and white pearls. A pair of black, satin, strappy heels will complete the look.

No matter which winter white color scheme you choose, have fun creating your outfit for an extra dose of holiday style.
