Mother's Day
(May 1, 2004)
Mother’s Day is back and I am still trying to figure out what to give Mom for Valentine’s Day! It has to be something special this year. And not special like, “I’ll blow a whole load of money on something spendy” special. More like, “remember how thoughtful I was this year for the rest of her life” special.
It’s gotta be something major if it’s gonna make up for flaking on Valentine’s, spacing her birthday, borrowing the car all the time, showing up late for dinner and forgetting to walk the dog 12 times too many.
So this year I’m thinking I’ll give Mom the one thing she always complains about never getting – more time with me!
She’s always wondering how I spend my days, so I thought I’d take her on a day-long Mom-and-Gabby date. We’ll just head for the mall and work our way around my usual circuit – pampering her all the way. We’ll start with coffee and a bagel at the café, followed by a leisurely mani/pedi combo at the salon. For myself, I normally wouldn’t spring for the 10-minute foot massage, but for Mom…? You know it.
As part of my day-long homage to Mom, I’ll even let her pick out her own dress in that fancy boutique in the spendy part of the mall. Obviously, she’ll have to hook herself up with the dress, but I will happily buy her a fun, pair of strappy stilettos (just like mine!).
Then we’ll head to the food court for a quick bite. After all that shopping, we should probably catch a quick matinee to relax. I’ll then usher her over to the make-up counter for a less-than-extreme makeover before my Dad picks us up and takes us all to dinner. It’s a perfect day fit for the perfect Mom – mine.
