Summer Wardrobe
(Jun 1, 2004) Since you were wondering, my Mother’s Day Gabbypallooza was a screaming success. Mom was totally moved to tears. Not because the gift was so creative and thoughtful, but because she got to enjoy herself at the mall all day long without me begging for yet another outfit.

Now that I have a whole year to figure out how to top Mom’s Day ’04, I’m back on the retail trail to figure out how to top Gabby’s Summer Wardrobe ‘03. I am totally hanging onto most of my spring basics like camis, minis and capris, but as the summer is heating up, colors are cooling down and I have to figure out how to maximize what I have already with what I have to have for the upcoming social season.

I am totally relieved that neutrals are back. All those bright colors were making me dizzy. I can keep a few bright spots from my spring wardrobe, and then use that stuff to punch up all those blushy, dusky, salmony and rosy tones. Right now I am just figuring out where I’m going to be once school is out and what I want to wear.

Since I’ll spend most of my days at work, at the pool, or on the beach, I’ve got a pretty good idea of what my summer closet is going to look like. I am totally hot for all those over-the-knee shorts. I can just see myself throwing on a pair of seersuckers with a layered t-shirt/hoodie combo – perfect for the afternoon-BBQ-to-bonfire-on-the-beach transition. Minis and heels for dressier stuff, for sure.

Of course, I still have Prom on the brain, but that’s only one night. Right now I need to focus. Summer is three months long – give or take. It takes a lot of discipline and a strict shopping schedule to prepare for it.
