Back-to-School
(Aug 1, 2004)
It's good to be back home after a month-long stint as a serial road-tripper. But, I have to admit, all that wind-in-your-hair, go-where-the-road-takes-you stuff always makes me forget about the main drain of a summer on the road – endless laundry.
Not to worry, though. Because August marks the start of my favorite season - the back-to-school shopping season, of course. Since there's about one month left to go, give or take, I've been keeping an eye out in all the malls I visited across the country for what's gonna be hot this fall.
Of all the trends I spotted, none impressed me more than the trend of lots of guys shopping for lots of cool clothes. Nothing is hotter than guys shopping by themselves, for themselves. I was equally impressed by what they were buying – logo polos were everywhere, likely because old school, neo-prep is hotter than ever. I strongly suggest cruising the mall and seeing what patterns are out there before committing. It seems like there's thousands to choose from.
Another thing I'm stoked on for school is that there's a little more fabric to be found on girly fall fashion. Once this tan fades, it will be nice to cover up my pasty paleness with some of the geniusly designed ponchos, faux fur and Western-styled designs in all the mags. I've also got my eye on some fringy belts and jeans. And of course, cargo and camo are on my "To Buy" list, too. I think I'll round all that out with a couple of belted jackets, some chunky necklaces and a mini dress or two – just in case I hit up the faux sun.
Ah, back to school. For some it literally means back to school. For me, it means back to shopping – my favorite subject.
