College Craziness - Sep. 20, 2004
(Sep 20, 2004)
I’ve spent so much time this weekend working on college applications. I’m only applying to 5 schools, but it feels like I’m applying to 30! I’ve narrowed my list down to a few in-state schools, some public schools and some private schools. I even decided to apply to Yale.
The applications are really easy, until it gets to the personal statement. It’s my only chance to tell the college about what I’m really like, and I don’t have a clue what to say or how to say it. Do I talk about my goals? Or should I talk about an experience I’ve had? Maybe I should talk about diversity because every college is all about having a diverse campus. My mind is spinning in so many directions right now!
Colleges always suggest topics, but they all seem so bland to me. They all want you to talk about a quote or someone that I’d like to meet from the past. I’d rather be totally original, so they’re not reading the same thing from every candidate. Right now, I’m leaning towards something about the life lessons I’ve learned from all the activities I participate in. But knowing myself, I’ll probably change my mind a million times before I’m done.
