And the Results Are In - Sep. 23, 2004

Well, they finally posted the list of who made speech team, and it looks like everybody who tried out made it, including my friend. The jury’s still out about if that’s a good thing or not. We only had 18 returning members because we always used to keep our team small, and now we have over 50! That’s going to be a huge change and will take a lot of getting used to because all the varsity members will be expected to help all the new members.
Today we had our first meeting of the year, and it was full of surprises. They told everyone what events they’ll be doing this year. They decided to have me do oratory (an original persuasive speech) and humorous duet acting (a short humorous skit with a partner). I have no idea why I’m doing humorous duet acting; I’ve never thought I was really all that funny. I just hope that it will be fun, and that I’ll have a cool partner. They didn’t decide what the partners will be yet, but I’m keeping my hopes up for someone that I’m already friends with. I didn’t get put into the event that I tried out for, but I’m trying not to be bummed out about it even though I really wanted to do that event.
I’m trying to keep my hopes up for my friend too. It looks like she’s going to stay on the team, and they put her in dramatic duet acting (a short dramatic skit with a partner) with her boyfriend who also tried out this year. It’ll definitely be interesting to see if she can be serious enough for a dramatic acting event. This year promises to be different because of all the new changes, and I just hope that it’ll be even better than I expect
